Children’s memorial hospital@Chicago

I am having a great time in Department of Hemato/Onco in Children's memorial hospital.

This hospital is real big and takes care of just vast number of pts.
You never notice how many kids they are taking care of if you just look at numbers of in-patients since the duration of administration is very short, mostly 3 days. They complete their chemotherapy at home, with nurses and parents.

Also, I am so surprised that schedule of chemo-therapy is very flexible depending on each kid's condition. They can pick when they will do high-dose MTX. Also, dosage of meds can be reduced if their condition seems not good or SE is found, which seldom happen in Japan.

Japanese system is good for clinical research but we have to admit that it requires more load on kids, sometimes... On the other hand, if they are treated in US way, there exists larger risk of developing "serious conditions" in absence of MD's care, which can lead to the worst result, death.

I have to wait to judge which system seem to be better till I move to JHU.

I have the last day in Children's memorial tomottow and will enjoy St.Patrick's day in Chicago. Then, I'll move to Baltimore to look for housing.
